Timecheck : 12.33am, Friday, 19 June.I just returned home from my Jerangkang Water Expedition at Kuantan.
It was a 4 days 3 nights expedition.
Let me elaborate on it.
:D
First Day, Monday.
We reported in school at 3pm and settled down. We had our last minute briefings about safety measures, thrash management, waste management and also dividing our food rations. When we were divided into 4 different groups ( Jerangkang 1, Jerangkang 2, Berkelah 1, Berkelah 2 ), to me, my groupmates are a total strangers. I seriously do not know, recognise or even talk to them before. What i did was just mind my own business till some of them approached me and said 'Why are you so quiet? Shy is it?'. =P
After all the briefings and final packing of our bags, we are all set to depart.
We were told that the coaches will be arriving in school at 9pm. Unfortunately, the coaches arrived at 10.15pm! See how long did we wait for it.
In the bus, both Jerangkang groups are in one bus while the other two Berkelah groups are in the other bus. During our journey from Singapore to Kuantan, we watched a movie in the bus. Seriously, being able to ride a cosy, clean and nice coach for a long journey is a wonderful thing. The coach is spacious, had a large TV infront, comfortable chairs and also, the chair can be moved in way that you can rest your feets. Get my point right? xP
Second Day, Tuesday
We alighted infront of a small mosque in Kuantan where we had our breakfast and a quick wash up. By then, it was already 7am. The journey from Singapore to Kuantan takes us about 6hours to 7hours. Freaking long eh. We were then told that to reach the waterfalls, we have to take lorry ride there. We waited for 3 lorries to arrive at the mosque. It was a 45mins ride and also, a 45mins BUMPY ride where the lorry followed a muddy, bumpy trail to the waterfalls. It was quite a interesting experience. It was as if, we were taking a roller coaster =) While we were on the lorries, we were taught different songs and cheers. It was fun!
When we reached the foot of the waterfalls, it was ard 8am. We started trekking up the mountain, carrying our super large trekking bags. We reached the base camp (campsite), not long after that. It wasn't that far though, probably around 20mins. We get changed into our wet attire after settling down our stuffs. Group Jerangkang will be trekking all the way up while Group Berkelah will be at the waterfall beside the campsite. There we go, trekking through the forest, up and down, left and right, climb and fall to reach the main waterfall which is way way higher. The scenery up there was superb. The sound of the water crashing down from the waterfalls just add a lil spark to the wonderful surrounding. Very peaceful and pleasant place. We took many pictures while we were up there and also, had our lunch there. Once done, we were given time to play in the water. The water was icy cold. As a result, most of us were vibrating. LOL.
When time was up, we were ask if we would want to trek down the same way as we go up which was through the jungle or to trek down through the waterfalls. The answers were through the waterfall. We trekked down slowly and carefully. The was a point of time where we were standing on a boulder/cliff which is around 3 to 4 stories high above the river and we were told to jump into the water. Some of the seniors were already down there, ensuring our safety when we jump. Being a person who doesn't know how to swim nor float and also afraid of water activities, i had a hard time jumping down the cliff. It was super high and the water was super deep! I was scared =/ But with the motivations given by the groupmates and seniors, i jumped down! Woahhhhhhhhh! The feeling was amazing eventhough i was struggling to find the safety rope after diving in. Everybody gave it a try. Syiok oi! :D
Throughout the whole trekking down through the waterfall, there were around 4 cliffs which require us to dived down and swim across. I managed to overcome it! Yeay!...
When we reached the campsite, it was already 5pm. We prepared our dinner and get changed into our dry attire. We had to cook our own dinner. Yes, COOK! Troublesome sey.
The night activities during the first night was nothing much but we were told to do sentry duty as well. Gosh. We had a hard time sleeping. It was squeezy but however, it was cold still.
Third Day, Wednesday.
We woke up at 7am and get changed into our wet attire. We then told to assembly in the water!
They were making us do the 'Morning Dip'. The whole groups were gathered in a circle with our hands interlocked. When we were given the signal, we will have to submerge ourselves in the water for 5 seconds. Can you imagine that? We were shivering like mad. It was fun though.
Once done with the morning dips, team Berkelah trekked up while team Jerangkang stayed and played games in the water beside our campsite. We played a few games such as Washing Machine (ask me personally what this is). Despite the icy cold water, we managed to have fun in the water. I really enjoyed myself. At noon, we had lunch which was spaghetti, and we played different games in the water, again. This time, there were 4 different sections. A diving section (where you dive from a not-so-tall height), a sliding section (using a rubber mat to slide down the river), an absailing section (where we absail down from a cliff to the bottom of this small waterfall) and also the buoy section (using a buoy to slide down the waterfall). We had 4hours to play! Gosh... Freaking exhausted but fun.
When night came, we had our Talentnight (campfire with no fire), where we had to perform. It was a hilarious, enjoying one. Great time! =)
Fourth Day, Thursday.
We woke up at 6am, had our morning dip again and packed our bags to trekked down back to the foot of the mountain. By 8am, we were all ready to trek down. We made our way down and waited for the lorries to arrivel. They were late.
lol.
Again, another lorry ride back to the mosque. In the lorry, we sang many songs and cheered as loudly as we could to destress ourselves. It was fun! Seriously.
When we reached the mosque, we washed ourselves clean and had our breakfast at a foodstall beside the mosque. Finally we managed to consume a proper, delicious meal. :P
We made our way home then and reached Singapore at 6pm.
I'm sorry if the blog post gets shorter. (if you realise! ~.-)
It's because i'm falling asleep already.
